Women´s Day
8 March is International Women’s Rights Day (or International Women’s Day) and originates from women’s demonstrations early 20th century in Europe and in the United States of America, demanding equality, better working conditions and voting right. The United Nations formalised it in 1997, therefore, inviting each country to celebrate Women’s Day.

This international demonstration day is about demanding equality and assess women’s situation within society.
Traditionally all over the world women militants groups or association prepare demonstrations, to bring to bear their demands, improve women’s conditions, celebrate victories and progress.

Polynesia celebrates this event each year since 1983. An event expected by all Polynesian women. This gathering is the occasion to meet for events, exhibitions, lectures and assess women’s conditions in Polynesia. This day takes on a particular dimension, so that all Polynesian women have together a moment of celebration.

The Post Office commemorates this day dedicated to “Vahines” with two new stamps made from two original paintings by M.NOGUIER and MOV.
