Chinese astrology is based on the solar/lunar Chinese calendar and features a 12-year cycle. But originally, it comes from a legend of Buddha.
The legend has it that in ancient China, Buddha organised a race among animals in order to establish a system of time marker in the world. Twelve animals then raced and arrived at Buddha’s feet. At the end of the race, Buddha
granted a one-year reign to each animal, according to their order of arrival. This is how the twelve-sign cycle was born, thus allowing the humans to benefit from their astral influences.
On top of this zodiacal system are five elements that provide more insight into the features of each sign.
2016 is the year of the fire monkey, the ninth sign of the Chinese horoscope. Those born under that sign are courageous and strong-minded. The fire monkey is also inventive, prudent and lucky in his endeavours. He can assess the scale of the risks he takes. 2016 is the time
to start new projects as the influence of the monkey will make them successful. Express your ideas, be creative and be smarter than a fire monkey...
In French Polynesia, it is an opportunity to have big celebrations organised by the local Chinese community for 15 days. They start with the New Year Ball. Many lion dances are performed in the city of PAPEETE. The key
event is the cultural day which takes place in the gardens of the KANTI temple of MAMAO. The celebrations end with a lantern procession through the town.
The Post and Telecommunications Office takes this opportunity to wish you a very happy new year of the fire monkey.
