EPJ Humour : Hiking
With pristine valleys or mysterious “marae” - ancient openair temples - to explore, French Polynesia presents nature lovers with various opportunities to satisfy their passion in superb excursions. They can hike, ride a horse or a quad bike, drive a 4WD vehicle ore more simply ride a bicycle.

In Tahiti, Mount Aorai (2,066 m / 6,778 ft) and Mount Orohena (2,241 m / 7,352 ft) are the favourite sites for experienced hikers. The part of Tahiti called “Te Pari” opens onto the wild and desert coast of the island, which has remained untouched for thousands of years. The
luxuriant and remote Government-owned natural park of Te Faaiti may be accessed through the Papenoo Valley. It is quite popular because of its river, which is the largest tributary of Tahiti.

Moorea, Tahiti’s sister island, amazes the hiker with the view from its lookout area, or the steps leading to Afareaitu waterfalls. Climbing Mount Rotui also unveils one of the
island’s main resources: pineapple plantations.

In the Leeward Islands, get away to the summit of Mount Tapioi or to the plateau of Mount Temehani. Set off to explore the trail of endemic flower “Tiare apetahi”. The Marquesas Islands Nuku Hiva and Hiva Oa, praised
by Gauguin and Brel, are best visited on horseback.

In the Austral Islands, the island of Rurutu is second to none with its incredible caves, standing out like cathedrals against limestone cliffs. You need to be bold to discover them. You can also climb up the top of Mount Manureva
(385 m / 1,263 ft) and enjoy a 360° view over the island. All these beautiful excursions provide unequalled excitement based mainly on moments of laughter and... humour.

The Post and Telecommunications Office invites you to join its philatelic trails, where colours, passion and smiles meet, reflecting the true image of French Polynesia.
