The sandalwood is a tree particularly known and appreciated for the characteristic smell of its only wood of heart. In French Polynesia, this wood is used in traditional medicine, in the small business sector(crafts) or the cosmetic, in particular in the preparation(clothing business) of the perfumed oil in the sandalwood (perfumed oil ahi in Tahitian or pani puahi in marquisien). Outside the Polynesia, the sandalwood is used in the manufacturing of essential oil used on luxury perfume shop for its scent but also for its fixatrices qualities.
The endemic sandalwood of French Polynesia (Santalum insulare) is at present present in the archipelagoes of the Marquesas Islands (Nuku Hiva, Ua Pou, Hiva Oa, Tahuata and Fatu Hiva), of the Company(Society) (Tahiti, Moorea and Raiatea) and Southern (Raivavae and Rapa). The presence of sandalwood
