Created the 1st of January 1st, 1917 by order of governor Julien, the SEO (Society of the Oceania studies) is certainly one of the most former association of Tahiti and its islands, and its famous Bulletin, one of the oldest periodicals of the Country.
Over the years, the S.E.O. knew how to create, thanks to the enthusiasm of his members and his public, a surprising collection of works, documents and objects: the first one can be seen at his headquarter, in the service of the archival and audiovisual heritage (S.P.A.A)., the second one was handed to the Museum of Tahiti and Islands (M.T.I).
Rich of his past story, and its links with the other cultural institutions of the Pacific and around the world, as well as its stability (12 presidents in 100 years), the S.E.O is facing future.
Its logo and this stamp reproduces in a stylized way the handle fan (a tahiri in Tahitian language), a formerly prestigious sign which reminds today still the hundred-year-old mission of the S.E.O. : " the on-site study of all the questions being connected with the anthropology, the ethnography, the philology, the archaeology, the history and the institutions, the customs and the traditions of the Maori of the oriental Polynesia.
