The Polynesian Post Office is proud to present you the emission celebrating fighter pilot of French Polynesia.
For that purpose, we chose to highlight the first pilot having fought during the great war of 1914-1918.
Henri Cadousteau was born on March 26th, 1890 in city of Mahina. Smith of job, he is mobilized on December 29th, 1915. Embarked by Nouméa, on December 3rd, 1916, he joins on December 19th, 1917 the 1st group of aviation of the military aeronautics. He passed his military pilot's licence in Châteauroux, on April 18th, 1918.
Henri Cadousteau is a fighter pilot in the squadron SAL 50, from September 23rd, 1918 till March 8th, 1919. He named his plane a Salmon 2A2 "Tahiti".
Quoted from army: “Sergeant Henri Cadousteau, pilot of the squadron SAL 50: pilot of a remarkable skill and a rare self-control. Executed in three months numerous and very brilliant missions during which he had many fights. November 3rd, 1918, during the advance of our troops on the Greenhouse, had its plane reached by two pieces of shrapnel among which several in the commands.” On January 28th, 1919, Henri Cadousteau benefits from a colonial permission. He is embarked in Marseille on the ship El Kantara, on May 10th, 1919 with the Battalion of the Pacific aimed at Tahiti. He
lands in Tahiti on June 18th, 1919 and is demobilized,on August 27th, 1919 and listed on the reserve in the detachment of colonial infantry of Papeete.
After the war, he withdraws in his property to Mahina. He will be Farmer. Henri Cadousteau has stood out in history of the aviation of Polynesia by his acts of bravery and his dedication to his country.
