Legendary hotel: Maeva Beach
Hotel Maeva Beach has been a part of life and will remain in the collective memory of the Tahitians for a long time. Opened in 1969, the hotel was a modern part of the tourist landscape in Polynesia.

Due to its architecture on several floors, this hotel had more than 200 rooms. Located by the beach in the municipality of Punaauia, it was decorated with the superb lagoon facing the island of Moorea.

At its opening, this hotel was the only one to claim international standing in Tahiti. With its large marble lobby, all rooms were air-conditioned and provided with telephone, representing a real revolution on the local level in the early 1970s.

The hotel was known for its Sunday “Ma'a Tahiti” (Tahitian oven) but also had a large main restaurant “Le Bougainville”, for night owls the night-club “Café de paris” and finally for lovers of Japanese gastronomy the restaurant “Sakura”.

It was one of the unmissable venues for music and entertainment lovers as all traditional dance groups performed there as Coco Hotahota’s “Temaeva”, but also international stars like Joe Dassin. The hotel hosted many events until 2011 with the FIFO Oceanian Film Festival.

It was an idyllic place where we would sip a cocktail in an enchanting setting, which had nothing to envy to the big hotels of Paris, New York.

But after several years of trying to deal with exploitation issues related to the tourism crisis of the early 2000s, the Accor group decided with regret to close the hotel in November 2012.

Now, following the demolition of the hotel, the site houses the Vairai leisure park which was opened to the public in 2017.

Fare Rata, Polynesia Post office, through this stamp, opens the souvenir album that made the traveller dream so much and reminds the Polynesians of the time of the joy of living.
