The women national day has initially, begun in the United States at the early 20th century, then thanks to the scale of the movement in favor of women rights, the United Nations Organization decided in 1975 to formalize the date of March 08th and to celebrate worldwide in all the member countries, the “international day of women’s rights”.

Every year it is a question of making an assessment on the realized actions, and also, of planning the opportunities for which wait women’s future generations in favor of their rights. The council of the women of French Polynesia organizes every year the meeting and other conferences throughout the week before March 8th, in partnership with the main institutions of the Country and the special guests. In March, 2018, we could note Ms Mareva Georges Marciano, Miss Tahiti 1990 and Miss France 1991, was patron of the event. Discussed issues were, among others, “the violence made to women” but also “Digital, a lever for the professional equality between men and women”.

This international day of women’s rights is also placed under the angle of the festive celebration through the Art, sport, and cultural sharing, through the training placing the Polynesian woman at the heart of the social, professional and political debate of our country. These various events include numerous women of various social, political, economic, cultural backgrounds to exchange on their role in the Polynesian society.

This year, the Polynesian beauty is once again highlighted in mainland France thanks to our magnificent Vaimalama Chaves, Miss Tahiti 2018 and Miss France 2019, doubtless a patron of choice for a next edition of this day dedicated to the women. For all these reasons, the Polynesian philately chose to put forward “Mrs Carotte” talent, a woman, and a graphic designer in love with our country, who sublimates the Polynesian beauty by mixing old photos with a graphic treatment which allies tradition and modernity, and at the same time elegant and outdated.

FARE RATA, the Post office of French Polynesia is proud to be able to join to this celebration by proposing you this philatelic issue.
