As a follow-up to the launch of the new banknotes in 2014, the Institut d'émission d'outremer (IEOM) will launch on September 1, 2021, the modernization of the range of CFP franc coins. The IEOM has decided to remove from circulation the XPF coins [1; 2; 5; 10; 20; 50 and 100 F CFP] from the old range and to issue a new range of XPF coins [5; 10; 20; 50; 100; 200 F CFP]. The three Pacific communities of New Caledonia, French Polynesia and the Wallis and Futuna Islands are affected by this change. This new coin line will permanently replace the current coins as of June 1, 2022.

This modernization makes it possible to have coins that comply with international standards, incorporating the identity signs of banknotes while repositioning the range (removal of 1 and 2 F CFP coins, introduction of a 200 F CFP coin). More practical, these new pieces will be smaller and lighter to facilitate the daily life of the populations. More adapted, they will feature a new 200 F CFP coin to reduce the number of coins needed for purchases. More modern, they will propose a new design and use, in their composition, less metals to limit their impact on the environment.

In terms of visuals, the new coin range is based on the identity signs of the three Pacific communities on the current banknote range. Each piece is distinguished by a different theme: flora, boat, fish, birds, habitat and culture, in order to simplify their visual recognition and the attached facial value.

The technical characteristics of each part: diameter, thickness, alloy and weight, have also been fixed to allow the recognition of each part with an increasing diameter according to the face value for parts of the same alloy (silver or yellow) and a two-tone coin for the new value of 200 F CFP. Banks, post offices and merchants will be distributing the new coin range as and when needed starting September 1, 2021.

In order to give greater visibility to this campaign, the IEOM and the SAS FARE RATA wished to decline the visuals in a booklet of 6 postage stamps.

Fare Rata, French Polynesia post office is pleased to participate, through its philately, in the launch of the new coin range of French Polynesia.
