Withdrawn   Located in the Pare District, the "Fautaua" (or Pautana) river is, in part thanks to Pierre Loti, one of the most legendary rivers of French Polynesia. In times past, a wide path followed the course of the river, going far upstream in a magnificent valley in which both the Tahitians and French would come to enjoy a stroll and also take a refreshing bath in the fresh water.


"This clear, delightful water flowed down from Mount Oroena through a big waterfall. The brook run on large, shiny stones, in between which one would see the frail trunks of guava trees. The branches of these small trees would bend to form a vault above our heads and projected, on this lightly stirred mirror, the jagged outlines of their foliage ... ".
